Replica Historic Trade Axe

Replica Historic Trade Axe (Catalog # 2002:226.216), a part of the Michigan State University Museum's Archaeology Teaching Collection. This tool, composed of a metal axe head with a round eye that slots easily over a wooden handle, was a common trade good during the fur trade period of colonial America. Like modern day axes, these tools were used primarily for chopping. Dimensions: approximately 48cm L x 16.4cm W x 4cm T, weight= 680.4g This axe was purchased for teaching purposes from a replica supplier.
