In October 2012 a VIM-4-producing Escherichia coli was isolated from urine from a patient. In December 2012, another VIM-4 E coli was isolated from a second patient. The patients had previously been admitted to the same hospital ward. By whole genome sequencing and SNP-analysis, the isolates were shown to be identical. This is the first report of VIM-4 E coli spread in Denmark.
