Natural Secretory Immunoglobulins Promote Enteric Viral Infections

In this project we show acute murine norovirus (MNV)and reovirus infection was significantly reduced in pIgR KO mice compared to controls. We found naïve pIgR KO mice have enhanced levels of interferon gamma (IFNg) in the ileum, and altered intestinal microbiota compared to controls. Strikingly, depletion of the intestinal microbiota resulted in comparable IFNg levels and MNV infection in pIgR KO and control mice. Furthermore, MNV infection was reduced after IFNg treatment of conventional WT mice compared to controls.
