Virginia Hurricane Evacuation Zones (2020 Update)

Zones were updated May 2024 to include sub zones of Eastern Shore, Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, Peninsula and Southside. Zones were updated July 2020 in localities containing Navy and Air Force installations at the DOD's request. Zone names amended with '-N' cover a naval installation and names amended with '-AF' cover an air force installation allowing for specific messaging for the areas. For questions, email VDEM GIS at [e-mail] concerning this data. ~~~~~~~ This file represents hurricane evacuation scenario zones derived by Atkins from VA_COUNTY, a feature class representing locality (county and city) boundaries in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Final data deliverable was given to VDEM on: July 7, 2017. Zones shapefiles were created by subdividing the VA_COUNTY polygon feature into scenario-based hurricane evacuation zones by county, based on digitized zone linework.
