The phytoplankton (cyanobacteria and eukaryotic algae) community structure in water and sediment samples from seven Qinghai-Tibetan lakes, spanning a broad salinity range from 0.7 g L-1 (freshwater) to 325.0 g L-1 (hypersaline), were investigated with universal 23S rRNA gene sequencing using pyrosequencing approach.
