Isolation of 15 microsatellite loci specific to Gulf of Mexico sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus desotoi)

We describe 15 variable microsatellite loci (the first for this subspecies) out of >1700 detected from a single 454 sequencing run. Of these loci, 8 were monomorphic, 15 display what appeared to be typical disomic inheritance, and 10 that showed evidence of tetrasomic inheritance. Of the 15 variable, putatively disomic loci, average observed and expected heterozygosity were 0.478 and 0.433 with allele numbers ranging from 2 to 7, respectively.
