Elasto-Damage Constitutive Modelling of Intact Rocks Under Various Loading Conditions

This thesis investigates how intact rocks behave when they are subjected to different types of loading, such as slow and rapid forces. Rocks may appear solid, but they gradually accumulate internal damage that can eventually lead to failure. This research develops advanced mathematical models to describe how damage initiates and evolves within rocks under various stress conditions. The models are validated using laboratory experiments and are designed to better predict rock behaviour in engineering applications. The outcomes of this work can improve the safety and reliability of underground structures, mining operations, and energy-related projects.
