Laboratory- and Prospective Industrial-Scale Life Cycle Inventories for Bio-Based Glycerol Trilevulinate Plasticizer

This repository contains comprehensive Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data supporting the environmental assessment of glycerol trilevulinate (GT), an emerging plasticizer derived from bio-based glycerol and levulinic acid (Lenzi et al., 2023). The data covers two distinct production stages: an experimental laboratory-scale (13 g/batch) and a prospective industrial-scale (5 t/batch). Dataset Content The provided file includes the following sheets: GT_synthesis_lab_scale: life cycle inventories for the laboratory-scale synthesis of GT plasticizer (13 g/batch). GT_synthesis_industrial_scale: life cycle inventories for the prospective industrial scale production of GT plasticizer (5 t/batch). Calculations_GT_synthesis: mass balances, energy requirements, underlying assumptions and calculations related to both the laboratory-scale and the prospective industrial-scale scenarios. Liquid-liquid extraction: specific calculations for estimating solvent use during the extraction step at the industrial scale. LCI_GT_sensitivity_analysis: cumulative life cycle inventory dataset for prospective industrial-scale production of GT plasticizer under different assumptions (different LA:GLY ratio). DEHP_production_ind_scale: literature life cycle inventory data (Caldeira et al., 2023; Li et al., 2025) for the industrial-scale production of the fossil-based plasticizer di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), used as a benchmark for the comparative LCA.
