The MalSource dataset was created by Alejandro Calleja, Juan Tapia, and Juan Caballero from the Department of Computer Science, Carlos III University of Madrid. It contains the source code of 456 malware samples. This dataset covers the period from 1975 to 2016, including early viruses, worms, botnets, exploit kits, and remote access trojans (RATs). The dataset was created to analyze the evolution of malware from a software engineering perspective, particularly its complexity and code reuse. This dataset is used to research malware evolution, including quantitative measurements of aspects such as code size, development cost, code quality, and source code reuse.
