Extraterrestrial (solar) Radiation (Ra) serves as a prerequisite and one of the core parameters for estimating other solar radiation-related quantities. Additionally, Ra is widely utilized in sectors including photovoltaic systems, solar thermal facilities, solar energy applications, agriculture, forestry, construction, and more, and plays a critical role in the estimation of plant evapotranspiration, potential evapotranspiration, drought indices, and particularly crop evapotranspiration. This dataset computes global daily extraterrestrial solar radiation data using the formula specified in the FAO 56 document via Python, with a unit of MJ·m⁻²·day⁻¹. It encompasses data for 365 standard days and 366 days in leap years, with a spatial resolution of 0.01°. Data for each individual day is stored in a separate TXT file, following the naming convention `day_xxx_radiation.txt`; for instance, `day_001_radiation.txt` corresponds to the Ra data of the first day of the year. A supplementary file matching day-of-year (DOY) ordinal numbers to corresponding calendar dates is also provided. Each TXT file contains two columns: the first column is latitude (negative values for southern latitudes, positive values for northern latitudes), and the second column is the extraterrestrial solar radiation value Ra. Ra is independent of longitude, meaning that Ra values are identical across all longitudes at the same latitude. Using the Ra data provided in this dataset, users can batch generate Excel tables with latitude and longitude coordinates at 0.01° longitude intervals via Python, then link the tabular data to ArcGIS software using the geographic coordinates to produce complete global spatial datasets.
