Microbial composition in the vagina in early pregnancy associated with adverse outcomes and moderated by host genetics

We analysed the vaginal microbiome (using 16S metagenomics) of a large cohort of pregnant women with a range of pregnancy outcomes and interventions. Samples were collected at multiple times throughout pregnancy approximately in line with first, second and third trimester. We found that the composition of the vaginal microbiome in early pregnancy was associated adverse pregnancy outcome in the context of the host genetics.
