The proposal aims at acquiring fundamental knowledge on the local atomic scale environment of major and trace elements in a range of materials relevant to environmental, geological and material science, using EXAFS spectroscopy. The samples absorber concentrations and matrices are selected by the participating teams to fulfill the requirements for acquiring high-quality bulk EXAFS data to the highest achievable k-values, on a large amount of samples within a limited beamtime. Two sets of samples selected for analyses at the Fat the Cd and Zn K-edges will be prepared for analysis at the FAME beamline. The chemically selective molecular-scale information that will be gained by the proposed experiments cannot be obtained from other techniques such as X-ray diffusion/diffraction. Part of the collected data, addressing standard materials and model compound samples will be implemented in EXAFS spectra databases.
