Genetic mapping of natural variants affecting floral pigmentation spots in monkeyflower

The goal of this study is to map a mutant and natural variants that impact petal pigment spot patterning in Lewis' monkeyflower and the common monkeyflower, respectively. F2 progeny of three intrapopulation crosses between wild type and pigment variant parents were scored for anthocyanin spot expansion. The sequenced DNA was extracted from pooled tissue or extracted from individuals then pooled, with each pool including a subset of 100 F2 progeny representing one of the parental phenotypes.
