Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xci) causes canker. At least three types of the casual agents are recognized, among which A*-type strains are restricted in host-range. Recently, reported by Pruvost-Goodarzi et al, a new subgroup designated as cluster 4.4, was determined among A*-type strains of Xci isolated from Sistan-Baluchistan province in Iran. Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri strain NIGEB-386 belongs to such A*-type subgroup.
