Bird-Area Water-Bodies Dataset (BAWD)

The Bird-Area Water-Bodies Dataset (BAWD) is a multispectral remote sensing image dataset developed by the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. It is designed to monitor water bodies in 16 globally distributed bird habitats with diverse terrain. This dataset comprises 446 satellite images, covering a total area of approximately 1039 square kilometers, with a monitoring period spanning from 2016 to 2021. The BAWD dataset fuses satellite imagery from the Sentinel and Landsat missions, combined with ground-based observational evidence, to provide early warnings for avian botulism outbreaks. The primary application domains of this dataset center on predicting and preventing avian botulism outbreaks, protecting avian habitats via non-invasive monitoring approaches, and thereby saving bird populations.
