MORPHOLOGICAL STRUCTURE OF ENVIRONMENTAL TERMINOLOGY IN ENGLISH

Environmental terminology plays a crucial role in expressing scientific knowledge related to ecology, sustainability, and environmental protection. The rapid development of environmental sciences has led to the expansion of specialized vocabulary, much of which is formed through productive morphological processes. This article analyzes the morphological structure of English environmental terms, focusing on derivation, compounding, affixation, and borrowing. The study aims to identify dominant word-formation patterns and explain their functional significance in scientific discourse. The research is based on data drawn from ecological dictionaries, academic textbooks, and peer-reviewed articles. The findings demonstrate that derivational morphology and compounding are the most productive mechanisms in the formation of English environmental terminology, reflecting both linguistic economy and conceptual precision.
