Italian GPS permanent station in Antarctica (Terra Nova Bay - Victoria Land)

In the framework of the GPS geodetic network in Terra Nova Bay, the network
reference station (0100) coordinates were determined with high precision in
WGS84 - ITRF system through the data processing made by NOAA, when the
reference station was included in a network of GPS stations during a
cooperative aerophotogrammetic GPS assisted test. In the 1995-96 expedition a
survey with Doris satellite system was carried out on geodetic network
principal station 0100, coordinates emanation point, that permits to determine
in absolute positioning the coordinates of network reference station in ITRF
system. During the 1995-96 expedition the 0100 station was included in SCAR
GPS Epoch 96 International campaign, sub-program of GIANT 1994-96 Program,
within station was recalled TN01. A project of GPS permanent tracking station
on station 0100 was started. In the 1996-97 expedition operations started with
cohibented box for GPS receiver installation and with the furnishing of the
station power support. In the 1997-98 expedition, the installation has been
concluded and the station is functioning since February 1998.
