V_recording_supranivean_activity_vertebrates

Track rate data for vertebrates from the localities Komagdalen and Vestre Jakobselv in the Varanger region from the time period 2006–2015. Recordings were conducted from 2006 to 2012 in Komagdalen and from 2006 to 2015 in Vestre Jakobselv. Track rate data from Komagdalen are based on recordings in sections Komagdalen øvre, Komagdalen midtre and Komagdalen nedre, and track rate data from Vestre Jakobselv are based on recordings in sections Jakobselv, Torvhaugdalen and Bearalveaijohka.

The dataset includes three different types of files, and all files are saved as ;-separated txt-files:

- One data file containing track rates for a selected group of vertebrates from 2006 to 2015
- One coordinate file with coordinates for all vertebrate track recordings (_coordinates.txt)
- One auxiliary file with coordinates for the survey lines where tracks were recorded (_aux.txt)

In the data file, track rates (v_track_rate) represent the total number of tracks per km and day, and are given annually (t_year) for each vertebrate group (v_species). Two species groups are included in the data file, namely lemming (*Lemmus lemmus*) and a group comprising tundra vole (*Microtus oeconomus*) and grey-sided vole (*Myodes rufocanus*), where the latter group is referred to as mic_myo (for v_species). Track types (v_track_type) are recorded either as crossing for lemming and mic_myo, or as snow holes which could be left by either of these two groups. Track rates in the data file are based on number of tracks, distances and days from the coordinate file and auxiliary file.

The coordinate file contains coordinates and information about all vertebrate track recordings. Each track recording within a section is described with the corresponding year (t_year), date (t_date), habitat (v_habitat), side of the tracking transect which the record was made (v_line), species group (v_species), number of tracks (v_number), and track type (v_track_type). Coordinates of tracks are given in decimal degrees (e_dd and n_dd) as well as UTM zone 33 easting and northing (e_utm33 and n_utm33).

The auxiliary file contains coordinates for and information about the survey lines that were followed during vertebrate track recordings each year. For each section, the visited points (v_point_name) along the survey lines are listed (v_point_number) with distance from the section starting point (v_distance_from_start) and traveled distance between each point (v_distance). Coordinates for each point are given in decimal degrees (e_dd and n_dd) as well as UTM zone 33 easting and northing (e_utm33 and n_utm33).

All data rows in the three files are described with the corresponding section (sn_section) and locality (sn_locality) within the Varanger region (sn_region).
