Canadian Gallup Poll, November 1982, #467_1

This Gallup poll seeks the opinions of Canadians, on both political and social issues. The questions ask opinions about the Liberal government and other important political issues within the country, such as the government's policy on immigration and how the economy is handled. There are also questions on other topics of interest and importance to the country and government, such as tax breaks for corporations, penal institution conditions and nuclear power. The respondents were also asked questions so that they could be grouped according to geographical variables. Topics of interest include: approving tax breaks for corporations; the best policy to deal with nuclear generation; Canada's biggest threat to the future; changes in the standard of living; changing the immigration policy; the effects of building a nuclear power plant in the community; the effects of regional differences on Confederation; the effects of labour unions on Canada; the government's handling of the economy; harshness of penal institution conditions; how courts deal with criminals; how representative labour unions views are of their workers; recession in the future; satisfaction with the direction of the country; satisfaction with the value of government services; the strength of labour unions in Canada; and support for the Liberal government. Basic demographic variables are also included.
