This dataset for "Computational Mechanism of the Trade-off Between Competition Avoidance and Hypercompetition", including the original data and codes.Study 1 included 59 undergraduate and graduate students who did not major in psychology or economics. The experiment was programmed using PsychoPy and data were collected in the laboratory. Among them, 1 participant was excluded due to misunderstanding the instructions, and 2 participants were excluded due to missing data, leaving 56 participants(self-reported gender: 29 females, 22.32 ± 2.59 years).Study 2 recruited 58 undergraduate and graduate students (self-reported gender: 30 females, 22.87 ± 0.23 years) who did not major in psychology or economics. No participant was excluded. The experiment was programmed using PsychoPy and data were collected in the laboratory.Study 3 involved 96 participants who did not major in psychology or economics via the online platform Cognitive Experiment Standard Toolbox (CEST). 4 participants were excluded due to failing to complete the task, leaving 92 participants for data analysis (self-reported gender: 58 females, 22.63 ± 2.93 years).The experimental data includes:(1) participants' investment in each trial (inv_s)(2) partners' investment in each trial (inv_o)(3) participants' earning (return_s)(4) partners' earning (return_o)
