资源简介:
Site 48CA1366 is located along the Belle Fourche River in northeastern Wyoming. Pollen samples collected from two stratigraphic columns at 48CA1366 were examined to provide information concerning vegetation and paleoenvironmental conditions. Column 1 represents fluvial sediments on a suspected Middle Missouri-aged terrace along the Belle Fourche River. Samples were examined at 5 cm intervals to provide a complete paleoenvironmental record. Column 2 represents the upper and oldest river terrace remnant. The cultural horizon was encountered at 150 cmbs, which is expected to represent Late Archaic (Pelican Lake Complex) occupation. Samples from this column were examined at approximately 15 cm intervals and individual samples represented no more than 5 cm of sediment. Seventeen soil samples were floated and the macrofloral remains examined to identify subsistence activities at this site. Features included primary hearths, roasting pits, charcoal stains, a sheet midden, and features exhibiting no evidence of burning.
