STUDENT'S PERCEPTIONS OF AI USAGE IN ACADEMIC WRITING AT SOUTH TANGERANG HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT have become integral to students’ academic writing, offering efficiency while raising concerns about originality and ethics. This study examines the factors influencing Indonesian university students’ actual use of AI-assisted writing tools and how such use improves academic writing performance. Using a quantitative approach and PLS-SEM, data from 175 students were analyzed to assess the effects of attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, information accuracy, and creativity. Results show that all factors except creativity significantly predict AI use, and AI use strongly enhances writing performance. These findings highlight the roles of social influence, perceived control, and information credibility in shaping AI adoption in higher education
