The current knowledge of archaeal community in activated sludge is quite limited. In this study, archaeal community structures were investigated in full-scale activated sludge bioreactors along an elevational gradient in China. The results showed that a core archaeal population, composed by Methanosaeta, Methanosarcina, and Methanococcoides, was shared by all samples.
