Sorting and recycling of plastic waste in Austria. Main body.

The new framework, defined by the European Commission's Plastics Strategy and Circular Economy Package, sets higher rates for recycling and preparing for reuse of plastic waste (at least 50%) and plastic packaging waste (at least 55%) by 2030. The report provides a compilation of the currently treated mass flows and realized technical plant concepts for the sorting and treatment of plastic waste in Austria. In addition, it contains the plant operators' assessment of relevant drivers and obstacles that exist for strengthening plastic recycling. In addition to twelve sorting plants, a total of 25 plants for the recycling of plastic waste were available in Austria in 2018. Detailed descriptions of selected installations are available in the appendix to the report.
