Listeria monocytogenes is a facultative Gram-positive bacterium that causes listeriosis, a severe foodborne disease. Currently, 13 serotypes of LM have been identified, but only four (1/2a, 1/2b, 1/2c, and 4b) are responsible for most of the confirmed clinical cases in Europe and worldwide. Serotype 4b appears to be the most virulent since it is responsible for most of the epidemics in humans. Therefore, we publicly release the complete genome of Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19115 (serotype 4b) to provide a basis for the research of Listeria monocytogenes.
