Whole-genome sequencing of strain PUT5 for taxonomic placement and functional analysis

Strain PUT5 is a methane-tolerant bacterial isolate recovered from landfill biocover material collected in Poznan, Poland. The strain was enriched under methane-only conditions as part of the SONATA project, and its genome was sequenced under the framework of the MINIATURA project. Phylogenomic analysis indicates that PUT5 is closely related to members of the genus Mesorhizobium, yet displays substantial genomic divergence, suggesting its potential affiliation with a novel taxonomic rank. The high-quality genome of PUT5 will support investigations into microbial adaptation to methane-rich environments and aid in expanding the phylogenetic and functional understanding of underexplored lineages within the phylum Pseudomonadota.
