A marmoset model of executive control: behavioural, pharmacological, and neuroanatomical studies

This thesis establishes a marmoset model to study executive control and social cognition, particularly the balance between response execution and action inhibition. A novel marmoset-specific Stop-signal task was developed for the assessment of response inhibition in marmosets. To demonstrate the utility of this task, we examined how hormonal, environmental and contextual factors influence behavior. To complement these behavioural studies, we documented the cortio-cortical connections of the marmoset ventrolateral prefrontal cortex, which is involved in cognitive control and social behaviour. Overall, we have evidenced that the marmoset model is a valuable translational model to investigate the neural architecture of social cognition and cognitive control, as well as the pathophysiology of neurodevelopmental and neuropsychological disorders.
