Bacterial and fungal sequencing of soils from across Great Smoky Mountains National Park

This project was carried out by investigators from Western Carolina University, the National Park Service, and Discover Life in America. It was supported via a gift from Microbial Insights, Inc. Microbial Insights carried out rRNA metagenomic sequencing of DNA extracted from soil from 20 sites representing multiple forest, bald, and grassland sites from many different elevations across Great Smoky Mountains National Park. These data were included in a Master's thesis published by Ivan Emrich who sought to determine interrelatedness of taxa base on co-occurrence modeling (which also included qPCR data for nematodes from the same sites).
