Reference contigs of the Bactrian camel Y chromosome have been assembled using Illumina short reads. The reference contigs were used to ascertain single nucleotide polymorphisms in singlecopy regions of the male-specific region in domestic and wild Bactrian camels. Their Y-chromosomal haplotypes were identified and a first backbone phylogeny generated to prime genotyping studies and trace paternal lines in Old World camelids.
