Avian SPL levels

This dataset compiles sound pressure level measurements for avian vocalisations extracted from 714 peer-reviewed studies. Each record includes species name, family, SPL values (in dB), measurement context, vocalisation type, and methodological details such as equipment brand and recording distance. Besides bibliographical information on the items, the records contain information on: Columns Explanation main_species Indicates whether the species is target for the study (1) or is control in playback experiment (0) dB1m SPL dB at 1m MIN1m Minimum SPL dB at 1m MAX1m Maximum SPL dB at 1m unit dB unit indicated in a study vocalisation_type Vocalisation type for the given SPL value, usually as described by the authors measurement_method If SPL was measured, this indicates whether it was obtained from wild or captured birds SL_company SPL meter company SL_model SPL meter exact model country Country in which the study was done. LAB indicates captive setting SPL_data Indicates how SPL data were obtained: measured, mentioned to resemble natural levels or playback setting without any reference to natural levels mentioned If SPL data is mentioned, was it referenced, or estimated by ear unique_species Number of unique species in the dataset status IUCN status of each species
