5 Pseudomonas strain screened from landfill refuse and leachates

Pseudomonas genus has many opportunistic pathogen species. These species such as P. aeruginosa is intrinsically resistant to several antibiotics and has the ability to acquire multi-drug resistance through the presence of several tripartite resistance nodulation-division (RND) multi-drug efflux systems such as MexEF-OprN multi-drug efflux pump. Multi-drug resistant genes, MexEF-OprN and the related Pseudomonas strains remains unknown in Municipals Solid Waste landfill, a global used MSW disposal strategy. This study systematically characterized this issue for the first time. Results showed multi-drug resistance exists in landfill and release into environment via landfill leachate.
