NRS-8002 | Instructions to District and Licensed Surveyors [Ministerial (Surveyor General) Branch, Department of Lands]

These letterpress copy books contain various instructions and memoranda sent to District and Licensed Surveyors from the different branches of the Lands Department such as the Roads Branch, Charting Branch and Mineral Lease Branch. The following details are usually given: the branch from which the instruction originated, the date of instruction, the portion number where applicable, the name of the surveyor to whom the instruction has been issued, notes relating to the work carried out by a surveyor, corrections of bearings and criticism of method (when applicable). Diagrams are occasionally included. In most cases the date on which the instruction was answered is recorded. There is a break in the continuity of the series which occurs from 4 April 1883 (3/6648). From this point onwards, a more complete indexing system is employed under the name of the surveyor to whom the instructions have been issued.
