These 6,668 Function Unknown Families (FUnkFams) are homologous, full-length protein sequences that derive from genomes in at least two taxonomic classes but with no annotated protein domains. They are a subset of the SFams Protein Families, described in this manuscript:
T.J. Sharpton, G. Jospin, D. Wu, M.G. Langille, K.S. Pollard, J.A. Eisen (2012). Sifting through genomes with iterative-sequence clustering produces a large, phylogenetically diverse protein-family resource, BMC Bioinformatics, 13(1): 264.
The family ID format is taxonomicspan_familyID_proteinID.
