Post-processed model output from variable-resolution (VR) model experiments with the second version of the community earth system model (CESM2) with: (1) PD_ERA_REF_BIPOLAR: a variable-resolution experiment for the recent past (1985-2014) with increased horizontal resolution corresponding to 0.25 degrees poleward of 60N/S and coarser resolution corresponding to 0.5 degrees between 60 N/S and 45 N/S and 1 degree elsewhere; (2) PD_ERA_UNREF: a unrefined experiment with 1 degree resolution everywhere. In both experiments, sea surface temperatures and sea-ice concentrations are prescribed to daily values from ERA5. The experiments are described in detail in Graff, L.
