Dataset of cardiorespiratory parameters in older adults studying Indian ragas

This dataset contains physiological recordings collected from 200 elderly individuals diagnosed with primary hypertension and residing in old-age homes. The study evaluated the combined effects of standard antihypertensive medications and a non-pharmacological intervention—Indian classical music (Raga Malkauns)—on cardiovascular and respiratory parameters.Participants were randomly assigned to a control group (drug therapy only) or an experimental group (drug therapy + music therapy). Each group included 100 individuals. Two medications were examined: Drug A (Atenolol) and Drug B (Azlocillin). Music therapy consisted of daily listening sessions to a sitar-based performance of Raga Malkauns for 30 days.The dataset includes pre- and post-intervention measurements of: Systolic blood pressure (SBP), Diastolic blood pressure (DBP), Mean arterial pressure (MAP), Heart rate (HR), Respiration rate (RR), Group labels (control/experimental), and Drug type (Atenolol, Azlocillin).Self-reported emotional assessments (SAM and PANAS) were also collected for the experimental group to quantify affective changes associated with music listening.
