资源简介:
Acute undifferentiated febrile syndrome is defined as a sudden increase in temperature, accompanied by other symptoms caused by a wide variety of pathogens. Fever has multiple etiologies, which in the case of South America include infections by the protozoan parasite Plasmodium falciparum, which causes malaria; infection caused by the dengue virus, Leptospira spp., Rickettsia spp. typhoid fever, chikungunya and Zika, as well as a wide variety of other parasites, viruses and bacteria. For this reason it is common for people to seek medical attention.Considering the wide range of pathogens that can be responsible for febrile illness, it is a challenge to detect the etiology of febrile illness with only a few diagnostic tests.Advances in next-generation metagenomic sequencing present a promising tool to address the challenge of identifying etiologies of fever by allowing unbiased detection of infectious agents in a biological sample. The metagenomic approach has led to success in the detection of pathogens for which traditional detection methods fail. With this objective in mind, we intend to perform a metagenomic characterization of potential pathogens associated with undifferentiated febrile syndrome in different municipalities of Colombia.
