Sequencing project to examine patterns of white-collared manakin (Manacus candei) population structure at various points along the Rio Changuinola in western Panama. Populations along the east bank have received introgression of adult male plumage traits from golden-collared manakins (M. vitellinus), including yellow collars and green bellies. Whether the river itself or other selective factors are preventing further introgression of these traits, which appear to be favored by sexual selection, is unknown. We sequenced 191 individuals from either bank to evaluate the role of the river in preventing gene flow.
