This series comprises a cabinet minute and related appendices prepared by Phillip Norman Ryan, Minister of Public Works, in relation to the construction of the Sydney Opera House. The appendices attached to the minute cover the purpose and history of the Sydney Opera House project, finances, works programmes and, in particular, action pending in relation to Stage I, Stage II and the stage lighting contracts for the Sydney Opera House. The minute recommended and sought Cabinet approval for the acceptance of the proposed contract with M.R. Hornibrook (N.S.W.) Pty. Ltd. (builder) for the construction of Stage II; the acceptance of Siemens Schuckert (electrical engineers) as contractors for stage lighting and the preparation of appropriate legislation to amend the Sydney Opera House Act to permit the application of lottery proceeds towards the cost of the work in excess of the estimate included in the original legislation.
