Sepsis is caused by dysregulated host reaction to infection or the secondary infection of damaged tissues, accompanied by multiple-organ failure. Sepsis-induced intestinal injury occurs frequently in the pathogenesis of sepsis and is usually associated with mortality. JinHong Decoction, a traditional Chinese intestinal damage prescription, is now gradually being used as complementary therapy. This study aimed to investigate the effect of JHD on cecal ligation puncture sepsis and its underlying mechanisms using rats sample. First, survival test shows that an oral administration of JHD significantly reduces the mortality rate in CLP-induced sepsis rats within the first 72 hours. Second, JHD attenuates sepsis-induced peritoneal inflammation and dramatically inhibite the excessive production of serum lipopolysaccharide , serum procalcitonin , tumor necrosis factor, and Interleukin. Third, JHD effectively reduces intestine injure and relieves the increase of intestinal permeability. Further, JHD downregulates the activation of the phospho nuclear factor signaling pathway in ileum tissue. Finally, Bacteroides Plebeius increases and Escherichia_coli decreases in the septic rats which were regulated significantly by JHD, suggesting that JHD may have some correlation with Glycoside Hydrolases function. In conclusion, we find that JHD play a therapeutic role in sepsis by attenuating inflammatory response, modulating of intestinal function and regulating the disorder of the intestinal flora, thus affecting the outcome of sepsis.
