Digital Archive from an Archaeological Watching Brief for the Roadford Pumped Storage Project: Gatherley to Lyd Pipeline, West Devon, October 2023

This collection comprises photos, site records, and GIS data from an archaeological watching brief for the Roadford Pumped Storage Project: Gatherley to Lyd Pipeline, West Devon. This work was undertaken by ISCA Archaeology in October 2023 during the removal of 26 former hedgebanks during initial works for the project. All of the 20 breached hedgebanks, with a sole exception of one, were of similar construction, being of an earthen core, and, where visible, were built directly on top of the existing underlying topsoil and subsoil horizons. No datable artefactual material was recovered from either the main hedgebank constructional deposits and/or the buried soil horizons below. The construction dates of the hedgebanks remain unknown, though they all appear on the 1840 Lifton Tithe Map.
