Laboratory PIV Dataset for Tidal Dune Hydrodynamics – MorphoDunes Project

This dataset contains high-resolution Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements of turbulent flow fields over fixed low-angle compound dunes subjected to reversing currents, produced as part of the MorphoDunes research project. The experiments were designed to study hydrodynamics and turbulence over tidal dune configurations representative of large-scale field dunes observed in macrotidal environments (e.g., the Goulet de Brest in Western Brittany, France). The dataset includes time-resolved 2D velocity fields (streamwise and vertical components) for four experimental runs with varying flow conditions and bed roughness: Ebb Spring Low-Rough – Exp1 Ebb Spring High-Rough – Exp2 Ebb Neap High-Rough – Exp3 Flood Spring High-Rough – Exp4 Each file contains processed PIV velocity data, grid information, and experimental parameters (e.g., flow direction, bulk velocity). These data were produced and analysed in the associated publication: "PIV measurements of turbulent water flows over fixed low-angle compound dunes under reversing currents" (JGR: Oceans, under second review). Potential Applications:The dataset provides a benchmark for the validation of hydrodynamic models of dune flows, as well as for the study of flow separation, turbulence production, and hydraulic roughness over tidal dune fields.
