The epitope is an analog of the Mycobacterium leprae hsp18-derived peptide, residues 37-49. The authors conclude that Pro at position 10 of the M. leprae hsp18 peptide EEFVVEFDLPGIK is a secondary anchor because Ala substitution in the epitope reduces binding to DRB1*0404 about 20-fold.
