The species of the genus Congeria are freshwater bivalves that live exclusively in caves. This relict genus is endemic to the Dinaric Karst and consists of three highly endangered species that have evolved numerous adaptations to subterranean life. The goal of the project is to elucidate the molecular basis of cave adaptations in Congeria kusceri.
