ROMANIA (2005): QUANTITATIVE SURVEY WITH MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN IN BUCHAREST, ROMANIA

The aim of the research is to provide a baseline measurement for the PSI MSM venue-based intervention, in particular regarding selected behaviors related to safe sexual behavior and selected determinants, among the target population of MSM attending Queen's club in Bucharest. The specific objectives are: 1. Provide baseline data on the following key behaviors: a. Consistent condom use at anal sex b. Regular testing for STI and HIV 2. Provide baseline data on selected determinants of the two behaviors specified above; namely: personal risk perception, peer norms regarding condom use 3. Provide exposure-related baseline data against which to measure the exposure to the POL model. As the POL model works on the principle of social diffusion, the items to measure this relate to the frequency of conversations among peers on specific health and sexuality topics 1. Questionnaire content: as per PSI developed questionnaire (Annex 2) 2. Pre-post design, relevant to the venue-based POL intervention. Pre test should take place November-December 2005; the post-test should take place March-April 2006. 3. Sampling of venues and respondents, sampling size: see Annex 1 for details of methodology
