Cells of the unicellular photosynthetic alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii were fixed, sectioned, and examined by transmission electron microscopy. In this section of a wild-type cell grown mixotropically, stacks (S) of thylakoids predominate. Also seen are starch granules (St). See Fig 1 in Goodenough and Staehelin 1971 J Cell Biol 48:595-619.
