The number of <em>T. dichotomus </em>on the focal sap site recorded every half hour from 4:30 to 8:00 (Aug 15, 16, and 18) or 4:30 to 12:00 (Aug 19 and 20). On Aug 15, 16 and 18, all <em>T. dichotomus</em> disappeared at approximately 5:00 due to <em>V. mandarinia</em> attacks<em>. </em>In contrast, on Aug 19 and 20 when hornets were experimentally prevented from landing on the sap site, five beetles remained until 12:00.
