Monkeypox whole-genome sequencing from Netherlands associated with the current non-endemic outbreak in multiple countries.

Monkeypox is a rare zoonotic disease that is caused by the monkeypox virus. It is assumed that rodents and non-human primates may serve as reservoirs for the virus and infect people. In May 2022, multiple cases of monkeypox were identified in several non-endemic countries. Here we announce the first Dutch genome sequences of the monkeypox virus associated with the ongoing multi-country outbreak.
