Domesticated chickens, especially backyard chickens, exhibit a large variety of secondary plumage patterns. We constructed seven DNA pools from different backyard chicken breeds, including Sebright, Brahma, Hambourg, Plymouth Rock, Buttercup, and Fayoumi. They express secondary plumage patterns of single lacing, partridge, spangled, pencilling, Buttercup barring, and Fayoumi barring, respectively. Whole genome resequencing of those DNA pools helps us to identify the mutations that are involved in the formation of secondary plumage patterns.
