Genomic features in Salmonella enterica from chickens and pigs to survival on meat

We gathered a collection of Salmonella isolates from the large-scale animal and meat production in Brazil. We included samples of domestic production as well as products exported to the UK. The collected isolates originate from chickens, pigs and meat from those animals and encompass different years of production and numerous S. enterica genomic backgrounds represented by numerous serovars. The objective of this study was to combine the characterisation of AMR, detailed phylogenetic analysis, and GWAS to identify genetic traits that may facilitate Salmonella persistence through the food processing chain and could indicate pathogen survival strategies.
