This database includes data from all large-mesh whole-water-column vertical net tows used to collect M. diluviana as part of the 2015 CSMI effort in Lake Michigan. These data were collected to allow the first lake-wide and annual estimates of population dynamics of M. diluviana in Lake Michigan (Holda et al., in review). The information necessary for these estimates is provided in this database. Four tables are included: SurveyData, VisitData, SampleData, and IndividualData. These data were also collected for use in conjunction with results of several simultaneous efforts primarily focused on understanding spatial and food-web ecology of lower trophic levels (including M. diluviana) and prey fish. Several other relevant datasets exist for Lake Michigan in 2015. First, a substantial volume of hydroacoustic data containing information on M. diluviana abundance, biomass, and fine-scale distribution patterns in the water column in Lake Michigan in 2015. In addition, there are datasets related to other aspects of the Lake Michigan ecosystem, including physical properties, chlorophyll concertation and distribution, communities, densities, and distributions of algae, zooplankton, fishes.
This database represents the cooperative efforts of three agencies and one university: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or EPA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association or NOAA, and the U.S. Geological Survey or USGS, and Cornell or CBFS (for Cornell Biological Field Station). Funding specific to the 2015 CSMI year was provided by GLFC, GLRI, and EPA. A substantial portion of these efforts were independent of CSMI in the form of annual monitoring surveys conducted by each of the three agencies, which were supported by funding allocated by each agency for that purpose. Data in this database provided by the USGS has been previously published in a USGS data release on ScienceBase (U.S. Geological Survey, 2019).
